A new Pew Research Center survey reports 65% of adults use social media today, a tenfold increase from ten years ago. Among those 65 and older, usage has tripled in just five years. Today, 35% of older adults report using at least one form of social media, compared with 2% in 2005 and 11% in 2010.
Other factors such as education, income, and population density show correspondingly higher levels of use across age groups.
It stands to reason that as the over-65 population grows more digitally aware, innovations that make use of that awareness will be able to provide increasingly digital solutions to senior care.
